IR Transmitter Instructions and Channel Setup

With an infrared transmitter you can change channel on your satellite or digital box when you change channel in ShowShifter. Here are instructions on how to do it.

Initial connection
  1. Connect up the IR transmitter. An IR transmitter is needed so that commands can be sent to your satellite box.
  2. Make a note of which channel in ShowShifter you are using to view the TV from your satellite box, for example 'Composite'

Software setup
  1. Dowload the following files:
    • IRSetup.exe - you will need to unzip the downloaded file to get the .exe
    • irtuner.dll - you will need to unzip the downloaded file to get the .dll
    • RedRat2.dll - you will need to unzip the downloaded file to get the .dll
    • as_ir200l.dll - you will need to unzip the downloaded file to get the .dll
Thanks go to John Vanderbeck who manages the IR tuner project. It is open source and more details can be found at http://sourceforge.net/projects/irtuner

  2. Copy these files to the following folder on your computer:
    C:\Program Files\Home Media Networks Limited\ShowShifter\Config

Train the IR transmitter
  1. Run the IRSetup.exe that you have copied above.
  2. On the window that appears, click the 'Detect Device' button.
  3. On the next window that appears, select the IR transmitter you want to use (RedRat2 or ACTiSYS) from the list, then click the 'Select' button.
  4. Hold the remote control for your satellite box close to the IR transmitter, then follow the instructions that are displayed.
  5. A window will appear with number buttons. Click on a number button in the window, then press the equivalent button on the satellite box's remote control. When a message is displayed to say that the number has been recorded, you can then do the next one.
  6. When you have assigned all the buttons, click the 'Save' button in the window. You have now finished training the IR transmitter.

Tell ShowShifter to use the transmitter
  1. Download and run this file to set the appropriate registry setting:
SetIRTuner.reg If you would like to set this setting manually, the details are:
    Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Home Media Networks\ShowShifter\Configuration\VideoModule
    String value: Tuner DLL
    Value data: irtuner.dll

Set up your channels in ShowShifter
  1. Go to ShowShifter's Channel Settings page as follows:
From the Main page, click on the 'Television' or 'Video Files' button.
From the Television or Video Files page, click on the button with a picture of a spanner on it.
From the TV and Video Settings page, click on the button with the label 'Channels'.
  2. Click on the add button (with + on it), a new channel will be added to the end of the list called 'New Channel'.
  3. Select the new channel, and move your mouse over the name beneath the list so that the text shows yellow. Type in a name for your channel.
  4. Click on the edit button (with a hammer on it), this will display the Edit Channel Details page.
  5. In the 'Number' field, enter the number that you would like to be sent to your satellite box when you go to this channel. Make sure that the 'Input' and 'Frequency' fields are set to those for the channel you are using to view TV from your satellite box. Click the OK button (with a tick on it) when you are happy with your changes.
  6. Do steps 2 to 5 for each channel your would like to add.
  7. When you have finished adding all your channels, click the OK button (with a tick on it).
Now whenever you change to one of these channels in ShowShifter, the channel should change on your satellite box.
